Peter Morton - BEWARE!

Peter Morton

I am based in Sydney and have been shooting casually for many years. I enjoy travel and have tried to record most of those trips in photo books for the family. Over the past 6 or so years I have become more involved in my photography. I was a member of the now sadly defunct Fairfax Clique group and through that became a member of a small but incredibly talented Facebook group, some of whom are in AASPI.

When I started shooting many years ago there was only film so I naturally learned all about f stops and light and exposure.

My first camera, like many photographers, was a Kodak Box Brownie and I still have some shots taken with it. I then graduated to a 35mm Praktica SLR and quite a few cameras since. When I look at a number of those old photos I surprisingly find that they are shots that I would be quite happy to have taken today, e.g photos of speakers in the Sydney Domain where my grandfather took me when I was 14 or so. I guess that the attraction of street photography has always been lurking in my subconscious.

I am happiest taking photos of people in their environment, sometimes just ordinary people doing ordinary things. I like to capture that moment in time when a person is in a particular environment or space. I am happy to find a place and wait for that not known person to inhabit it. They may not be there again but they were once there, and I have captured that moment.
